Very exciting day catching up on my cycling this week by riding over the Sanibel Causeway for the first time since Hurricane Ian in late September 2022! Although cyclists are cautioned about road debris on the causeway, I found the causeway in great shape with minimal debris. I normally try to go as fast as possible down the tallest bridge but hit a top speed of 35 MPH today (prior record 40.5 MPH).
I saw many cyclists on Sanibel and Captiva today and was thrilled to see many renovated and new buildings since my last ride on these popular tourist islands. I road 60.5 miles today from Shell Point to Captiva including the West/Middle/East Gulf Drives.
The first and tallest bridge on the Sanibel Causeway is challenging and a bit slow as you reach the top (70 feet, tallest bridge in Lee County) but lots of fun going down the other side! My new bike, a Pinarello Dogma F10, is fabulous and enjoyable to ride due to its light weight and electronic gear shifting.
